Celebrating our green initiatives

It’s World Environment Day and at Beaconhills College we have many green reasons to celebrate.

The new community garden at our Pakenham Campus has really taken shape over the past year. Students have worked with staff to build more garden beds as part of their Industry & Enterprise subject and there’s a new hothouse and tool shed. A program this year called ‘I Can Grow Food’ is teaching students about food systems and food insecurity in the local area.

The entire College also now operates with more than half of its energy sourced from solar – representing a saving of about $1.24 million since we installed solar in 2014 (not including rising electricity costs since that time). The solar powered system is currently 830kW across both campuses. More details about our green initiatives are outlined in our latest Green Report.
