Ibaraki students return home

Beaconhills College began a sister school relationship and student exchange program with Ibaraki Christian High School in Japan almost 29 years ago. After a recent two year hiatus, the program resumed this year and staff, students and their families couldn’t be more excited.

College families across both campuses recently hosted 15 students and 2 staff from Ibaraki for two weeks, and next month Beaconhills students will stay with host families from the Christian school before visiting significant cities such as Tokyo, Kyoto and Hiroshima.

Michelle Hansen – Head of Japanese, said the program is an invaluable experience that encourages students to develop a global perspective by finding out the many similarities between their lives across the two countries.

“It is wonderful to have our exchange programs with our sister schools starting again and see the friendships formed between our students and their host student”, Ms Hansen said.
